About

I am a Consultant Laparoscopic General and Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon. I work in the NHS at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, mainly at Queen’s Hospital in Burton. I also provide private care at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital and Spire Healthcare.

I specialise in keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery. This uses small cuts and can lead to less pain and faster recovery.

My aim is to provide safe, effective treatment and a high standard of care.

Areas of expertise

I treat a wide range of general and upper GI conditions, including:

  • Gallstones and gallbladder disease
  • Hernias, including simple and complex cases
  • Acid reflux and hiatus hernia
  • Lumps and benign (non‑cancerous) skin conditions
  • Emergency conditions such as appendicitis

I have particular expertise in hernia surgery. I treat both routine and complex hernias, including recurrent cases.

Specialist procedures

I offer a range of surgeries, including:

  • Laparoscopic gallbladder removal (for gallstones)
  • Laparoscopic surgery for hiatus hernia and acid reflux
  • Hernia repair (both keyhole and open surgery)
  • Repair of complex and recurrent hernias
  • Abdominal wall reconstruction for large incisional hernias, which can reduce the risk of the hernia returning
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy (keyhole removal of the appendix)
  • Removal of lumps and skin lesions

I use modern surgical techniques to achieve the best outcomes and support faster recovery.

Training and experience

I completed my initial surgical training in Sri Lanka before moving to the UK.

I then undertook advanced training in liver and gallbladder surgery at a specialist transplant centre in Liverpool. I also completed further upper GI training in major centres in West Yorkshire and Hull.

I hold several qualifications, including MBBS, MS, MSc (Research), a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).

Teaching and education

I am an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Leicester Medical School. I teach and support medical students who are training to become doctors.

I am also a Foundation Programme Director. In this role, I oversee and support the training of junior doctors in their early careers.

My approach

I aim to provide the highest standard of care. I will explain your condition and treatment options clearly.

My goal is to help you feel informed and confident, while achieving the best possible results and recovery.
