About
Mr Henry Atkinson is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Highgate Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital, where he specialises in hip and knee surgery, lower limb arthroplasty, sports injuries, ligament reconstruction, and foot and ankle surgery.
He qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 1998 and completed specialist orthopaedic training in London before undertaking advanced fellowships in Canada, Australia and Serbia. He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at North Middlesex University Hospital in 2009 and has received multiple Clinical Excellence Awards in recognition of his contribution to patient care.
Alongside his clinical work, Henry holds a number of leadership, teaching and research roles, including Divisional Director of Surgical Services, Visiting Professor of the Serbian Orthopaedic and Trauma Association, and President of the Orthopaedic World Literature Society. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed scientific papers and remains actively involved in medical education and research.
Special interests
Mr Atkinson specialises in the treatment of sports injuries affecting the lower limb, including knee and ankle arthroscopy, meniscal repair, ACL and ligament reconstruction, meniscal transplantation, allograft surgery and internal bracing techniques.
He also has extensive expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery, including custom patient-specific implants and complex revision procedures. His practice encompasses bunion correction, revision bunion surgery, bioabsorbable fixation techniques, PRP injections and shockwave therapy.
