Mr George Kirby

Mr George Kirby is a Consultant Upper and Bariatric Surgeon specialising in the treatment of gallstones and gallbladder disease, hernias, acid reflux, hiatus hernia and obesity. He is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based surgical care tailored to each patient's individual needs, with an emphasis on excellent outcomes, clear communication and shared decision-making.

Mr Kirby has extensive experience in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and performs laparoscopic procedures whenever appropriate, helping patients benefit from less postoperative pain, smaller scars and a faster recovery. He is an expert in the management of gallstones and gallbladder disease, undertaking laparoscopic gallbladder removal and treats all types of abdominal wall hernias using both open and keyhole techniques. Mr Kirby also performs hiatus hernia repair and anti-reflux surgery for patients with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Mr Kirby graduated in Medicine from the University of Manchester before undertaking surgical training in Oxford and Brighton and undertook higher surgical training in the West Midlands Deanery.

Mr Kirby is the Clinical Lead for Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and is committed to continually improving the quality and efficiency of surgical services.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Kirby teaches trainee surgeons, and medical students as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Keele University. He is a JAG-accredited endoscopist and endoscopy trainer.
