About
Mr Geoffrey Roberts is a consultant general and upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgeon, providing care for a range of general and upper GI surgical conditions and has a strong interest in keyhole (laparoscopic) and day-case surgery.
His approach to healthcare is rooted in the belief that treatment should be tailored to the individual, fostering an open and honest relationship between doctor and patient. He is committed to delivering holistic, patient-centred surgical care.
He has expertise in hernias (in particular keyhole repair), gallstone and cholecystectomy (including difficult 'hot' cholecystectomies) and complex benign upper GI surgery (hiatus hernia, anti-reflux and achalasia surgery).
With a busy emergency and complex benign practice in the NHS, he is in a strong position to offer care for gallstones, hernias, reflux, hiatus hernia and achalasia in a timely and expert fashion.
Mr Roberts is a consultant and clinical Lead for the Surgical Emergency Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Education and experience
Mr Roberts completed his higher surgical training in the East of England and undertook a fellowship in oesophago-gastric surgery in Cambridge.
His PhD research at the University of Cambridge focused on the metabolic effects of upper GI surgery, including its impact on eating, symptoms and quality of life.
He studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and Merton College, Oxford. His early training took place in London and the East of England, including a role as a demonstrator in anatomy at Cambridge University and a college supervisor in anatomy and embryology at Emmanuel College.
He also volunteered for six months as a surgeon at St Francis’ Hospital, Katete, Zambia. Living and working in a different culture provided him with a unique perspective on life and medicine, which continues to influence his practice today.
