About

Mr Ali’s NHS practice is at the world renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore) in London. He studied medicine at Imperial College London and completed his doctorate at Cambridge University.

He was awarded a National Institute for Health and Care Research, Academic Clinical Lectureship at the University of Cambridge and completed an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Imperial College, London, gaining honours in the degree. He completed his doctorate at Magdalene College, Cambridge after receiving the highest research grant ever awarded to an individual by the British Orthopaedic Association. He received a distinction for his thesis.

Mr. Ali’s interests lie in hips and knees. Specifically, hip joint replacements, knee joint replacements and re-do (revision) surgery- also performing these robotically via the MAKO robot. In addition, he also performs knee preservation surgery, partial knee replacements, sports knee injuries including meniscal and ACL injuries and stem cell cartilage regeneration. Mr Ali also offers Arthrosamid injections for those who prefer a non-operative approach.

Mr Ali completed international fellowships in world-renowned centres. He completed an international fellowship in complex reconstruction (first time hip and knee replacements) and revision (re-do) surgery at the very high-volume centre at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Further to this, he completed a sports knee injuries fellowship and travelling research scholarship programme at the Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. He has also completed domestic fellowship level training in major trauma. 

Special interests

Mr Ali has also completed a Masters level Postgraduate Certificate in medical education at the University of Cambridge, teaches on several FRCS courses, preparing aspiring orthopaedic surgeons for the consultant accreditation examination and is a Royal College of Surgeons instructor. He continues to deliver teaching on an international basis, collaborating with other Orthopaedic Centres of Excellence.

Research

Mr Ali is very passionate about research and teaching and he has been awarded over £115,000 of peer reviewed research grant funding over his career. He has over 30 peer reviewed publications and over 50 international presentations and remains a reviewer for the prestigious Journal of Arthroplasty. His thesis was written on osteoblast function and its links to early hip and knee replacement failure.
