About
Mr David Birchley has worked as a full-time Consultant Vascular Surgeon in Exeter since October 2010. He has been trained and accredited in the management of all aspects of arterial and venous disease, hernia disease and surgery in general. He has a comprehensive NHS practice in these areas in parallel with his private service.
During consultation with David, patients can expect to be counselled in detail regarding all available treatment options, including non-treatment or transfer to local NHS care if appropriate. David believes no single treatment is suitable for all patients, even if they have the same condition. Patients can therefore be confident that their care is tailored to their specific individual needs.
David also believes in patients having direct access to him in case of questions or concerns, both before and after treatment. He is contactable seven days a week by email and contact details are provided to all patients.
David’s outcomes for major arterial procedures (aortic aneurysm repair; carotid endarterectomy; lower limb bypass; amputation) are published by the Vascular Society and available to the public. He maintains close audit records of his surgical work and would be happy to discuss his personal results as part of your consultation.
David’s NHS work is subject to regular peer-based mortality and morbidity review and he complies fully with the GMC requirements for independent specialist practice, including accreditation and revalidation.
