About

After qualifying in medicine in Glasgow in 1988 I undertook basic surgical training in the West of Scotland. I then undertook a post in Immunology at the University of Glasgow and was awarded a PhD in 2000.

I obtained a Higher Surgical training position in the Northern Region, which included training in HPB (liver and pancreatic) surgery. I then specialised in their area of surgery and undertook fellowships at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and the University of Western Ontario, Canada.

I was appointed to the Consultant Grade in 2003 in Birmingham before moving to Plymouth in 2004 to set up liver surgery in the South West peninsula.

I have extensive experience in liver, pancreatic and general surgery. I have undertaken over 3000 cholecystectomy operations and a similar number of hernia repairs. I was Clinical Director of General Surgery at Derriford Hospital 2016-2019.
