About
Mr Mitchell is a specialist consultant orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in diagnosing and treating hip and knee conditions. He provides advanced, patient-focused care and uses the latest surgical techniques to achieve the best outcomes.
He studied medicine at Oxford University and University College London, qualifying in 2006. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the Wessex Deanery, including 16 months of experience at Wellington Hospital in New Zealand.
In 2017, Mr Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Sir Walter Mercer Gold Medal for outstanding performance in the FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics examination.
Before becoming a consultant at University Hospital Southampton in 2020, he completed advanced specialist fellowships in hip and knee surgery at University Hospital Southampton, major trauma and complex joint replacement (arthroplasty) at the Royal London Hospital, and an AO travelling fellowship in Houston, Texas.
Mr Mitchell uses data from the National Joint Registry to select high-performing hip and knee implants, ensuring the best long-term results for his patients. He is committed to clear communication and takes time to explain all treatment options, helping patients make informed decisions about their care.
He is also the Orthopaedic Trauma Lead at University Hospital Southampton, a major trauma centre. In this role, he teaches and lectures at both regional and national levels and is actively involved in ongoing orthopaedic research.
