About
Mr Brij Madhok is a Consultant Surgeon specialising in general surgery, upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, and bariatric (weight loss) surgery. He has extensive experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, which often allows for smaller scars, less pain, and faster recovery.
Mr Madhok treats a wide range of conditions, including hernias, gallstones, acid reflux, and other stomach and digestive problems. He also offers specialist care for patients considering weight loss surgery, including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, gastric band, and gastric balloon procedures. His aim is to help patients improve their health, mobility, and quality of life through safe and effective treatment.
He began his surgical training in India and later completed advanced specialist training in London, Manchester, and Yorkshire. Mr Madhok undertook the highly regarded Sunderland Bariatric Fellowship before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at the Royal Derby Hospital.
Mr Madhok is passionate about education and training. He teaches medical students and junior doctors and is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham Medical School. He also regularly teaches surgeons on advanced keyhole surgery training courses.

Mr
Madhok was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) by University of Leeds for his work
in cancer research. He also undertook a Postgraduate diploma in clinical health
research at University of Leeds. He has a keen interest in research, especially
in the field of weight loss / metabolic surgery. He has a number of
publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has presented at national
and international conferences and meetings.
