About
I am a Consultant Surgeon specialising in general surgery, upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery and weight loss (bariatric) surgery. I have extensive experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. This type of surgery uses small cuts and can lead to less pain, smaller scars and faster recovery.
I treat a wide range of conditions affecting the stomach and digestive system. My aim is to provide safe and effective treatment to help improve your health, mobility and quality of life.
Areas of expertise
I diagnose and treat a range of conditions, including:
- Hernias (such as inguinal and hiatus hernia)
- Gallstones and gallbladder problems
- Acid reflux (heartburn caused by stomach acid)
- Other upper gastrointestinal conditions
I also provide specialist care for weight loss surgery. This includes:
- Gastric bypass
- Gastric sleeve
- Gastric band
- Gastric balloon
I will work with you to choose the most suitable option based on your needs.
Specialist skills and procedures
I offer a range of procedures, including:
- Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery
- Reflux surgery, including laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (a procedure to reduce acid reflux)
- Gallbladder removal surgery
- Endoscopy (a test to look inside the digestive system)
Training and experience
I began my surgical training in India. I then completed advanced specialist training in London, Manchester and Yorkshire.
I also completed the Sunderland Bariatric Fellowship. This is a specialist programme in weight loss surgery. I was then appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital.
Teaching and education
I am passionate about teaching and training. I teach medical students and junior doctors. I am also a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham Medical School.
I regularly teach other surgeons on advanced keyhole surgery courses.
My aim is to provide clear advice and high‑quality care. I will support you throughout your treatment and help you feel informed and confident in your decisions.

Madhok was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) by University of Leeds for his work
in cancer research. He also undertook a Postgraduate diploma in clinical health
research at University of Leeds. He has a keen interest in research, especially

publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has presented at national
and international conferences and meetings.
