About

Mr Patterson obtained his undergraduate medical degree from Imperial College London and was runner-up for the University of London Gold Medal.

His higher surgical training took place in London at St George’s, St Mary’s, and St Thomas’ Hospitals, where he gained specific experience in aortic surgery. While at St George’s, he completed a PhD, studying ways to make complex aortic repair safer. Subsequently, he was appointed an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Vascular Surgery.

Since starting as a consultant in the Wessex Vascular Network, Mr Patterson has contributed to the development of the regional aortic service alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team. He consistently ranks among the highest-volume, lowest-mortality aortic surgeons in the country and has expertise in all methods of repair.

In addition to aortic surgery, Mr Patterson is experienced in the full breadth of general vascular conditions and their management.

Mr Patterson is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton and continues to participate in research. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers.
