About
Mr Maclean is employed as a full time hand and wrist consultant at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. After qualifying from University of Southampton Medical School in 2005 he undertook Foundation training in Winchester, before working in trauma in Royal Perth Hospital, Australia for a year. He then returned to the UK to complete Core Surgical Training in Bristol, where he also completed an MD research degree at the University of Bristol investigating the safety of orthopaedic implants.
He then moved to complete his higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics in Wales, specialising in hand and wrist surgery. He further undertook a travelling hand surgery fellowship to the University Hospital of Zurich, and spent a year of specialist hand surgical training at the John Radcliffe Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. He was awarded the European Hand Diploma in 2018

Carpal tunnel
syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis of
the wrist and hand, joint replacement, joint fusion, Dupuytren’s disease,
ganglion removal, trigger finger, hand and wrist trauma, hand and wrist deformity
correction after fracture
Personal interests
Mr Maclean ran competitively for Great Britain between 1999 and 2006, and was GB under 23 1500m champion in 2000 and 2001. He still enjoys road and cross-country running with Swansea Harriers. Other interests include playing the guitar, surfing and playing golf with his family.

Research
Mr Maclean has demonstrated an active interest in research and was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellowship for his MD investigating the safety of metal-on-metal hip replacements. He has published his work in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at numerous international meetings.
