About
Mr Alastair McCleary has been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon in York for 21 years, having trained in Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds and Adelaide.
With his colleagues, he built a vascular unit in York that serves all of North Yorkshire and it's now one of the busiest in the UK.
He is the Treasurer of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

Research
Mr McCleary has a particular interest in carotid endarterectomy and was one of the pioneers of carotid endarterectomy under local anaesthesia. Now his research is directed at improving service provision in patients with critical limb ischaemia who are at risk of requiring amputation of their leg.
