About
Ali Malik is a general surgical and colorectal specialist. He successfully acquired the CCT in general surgery following formal training in the South East London/KSS training rotation. His Basingstoke experience as a Post-HST Fellow in laparoscopic and advance colorectal surgery provides him with the skills to deal with advanced intra-abdominal malignancy and to focus on a laparoscopic approach to elective colorectal surgery.
Ali Malik’s areas of interest include the management of recurrent rectal cancer and pelvic floor conditions and performs open and laparoscopic colorectal resections, ventral mesh retopexy, laparoscopic appendectomy and general surgical on call presentations. He has exposure to Natural Orifice Specimen Extraction (NOSE) and TransAnal Rectal Resection surgery (TARR) and has presented outcome data nationally and internationally.

Research
Ali Malik is actively involved in surgical research. Following a Cancer Research UK funded project, his Master of Science thesis on apoptosis pathways in liver and colorectal cancer cells was successfully defended leading to the award of a distinction and degree. The findings have been presented both nationally and internationally.
He regularly performs systematic reviews for the Cochrane Collaborator’s Colorectal Cancer and Incontinence Groups. During 2013/14 he was involved in the development of Natural Orifice Specimen Extraction and Transanal Rectal Resection at Medway and Basingstoke respectively and obtained a Royal Society of Medicine Travelling Fellowship to present the results in Italy in 2014.
