About
Mr Alan James is a Consultant Surgeon specialising in keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery for conditions affecting the gallbladder, digestive system and abdominal wall.
He has particular expertise in treating gallstones and gallbladder disease, hernias (including inguinal, femoral and abdominal wall hernias), and acid reflux. He offers a full range of surgical and endoscopic treatments, including laparoscopic gallbladder removal, bile duct stone treatment (ERCP), hernia repair and anti-reflux surgery.
Mr James performs a high volume of minimally invasive procedures. Wherever possible, he uses keyhole techniques to reduce pain, minimise scarring and support a faster recovery.
He studied medicine at Oxford University and King’s College London, and completed specialist surgical training in the South East of England. He has been a Consultant at East Surrey Hospital since 2010 and has over 15 years’ experience as a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon.
Alongside his clinical work, he has held several senior leadership roles, including Clinical Lead for Trauma, Endoscopy Lead and currently Clinical Lead for General Surgery at East Surrey Hospital. His private practice reflects his NHS work, offering the same expertise and approach.
