About
Mr Adam Ross is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a sub-speciality interest in cataract and lens surgery, including micro-incision and complex cataract surgery, general ophthalmology, retina and uveitis. He has over 20 years’ experience in medicine, and was previously the lead for the retinal service at the Bristol Eye Hospital. He is also exceptionally active in clinical research, serving as the principal and chief investigator on a variety of trials. He carried out his training in Bristol and Cheltenham, as well as visiting fellowships in New York and the National Eye Institute in Washington.
His expertise lies in cataract and lens surgery, complex cataracts, premium multifocal/trifocal and toric intraocular lenses, as well as retinal disease.
Mr Ross has extensive experience using the newest innovations and modern intraocular lenses including Monofocal, EDOF, EMV, Multifocal, Trifocal, Spiral and Toric lenses. He regularly collaborates with the pharmaceutical industry and was one of the first UK surgeons to be given the opportunity to use the most modern intraocular lenses before fully coming to market.
Furthermore, he is an expert in retinal and inflammatory (uveitis) eye diseases having led the retinal and injection service at the world renowned Bristol Eye Hospital. He has set up various clinical trials investigating novel drugs and therapeutics. Mr Ross has published widely in ophthalmic literature and is continually invited to give opinions, talks and presentations world-wide.
Mr Ross has completed various post-graduate qualifications, is a fellow of the higher education academy, and continues to be actively involved in the teaching of ophthalmologists, in addition to allied health professionals, including local optometrists. He has an extensive background in teaching, and was the Ophthalmology Postgraduate Training Director and Head of School for Ophthalmology in the Severn Deanery, as well as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol. Mr Ross has trained numerous ophthalmology trainees and fellows who are now consultant ophthalmic surgeons both in the UK and worldwide. Mr Ross is also heavily involved in research within the subspecialty of retina and previously sat on the board of trustees for the charity SRUK (Sight Research UK).
Mr Ross is able to treat the following conditions: cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery and lens surgery, macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic eye disease, other retina and macular diseases, glaucoma, dry eye, blepharitis, uveitis, eyelid cysts and lumps, as well as Laser YAG procedures. Personal interests
Outside of Ophthalmology, Adam is a proficient musician having previously attended the Royal Academy of Music. He plays the violin and sings wide and varied repertoire in a choir, performing regularly in concerts. Above everything else, however, he enjoys spending time with his family in Cornwall in the sea.
