About
Miss de Silva is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in medical retina diseases and cataract surgery.
Miss de Silva has over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology, with expertise in managing patients with retinal conditions including age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, inherited retinal diseases and cataract surgery.
Education
After graduating from the Universities of Cambridge (1st class) and Oxford (clinical medicine), she completed ophthalmology training in the Oxford deanery and was awarded a Wellcome Trust fellowship to pursue a doctorate (DPhil) at the University of Oxford.
This was followed by two prestigious sub-specialist fellowships in medical retina, in Oxford and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, after which she was appointed as a Consultant at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
She has been awarded numerous prizes including the Harcourt medal by the Royal College of ophthalmologists.
Teaching
Miss de Silva supervises graduate students. She is also committed to patient education and clear communication, speaking regularly on patient webinars, podcasts and developing information resources for national charities.

Miss de Silva has published over 75 papers and contributes extensively to advancing knowledge and treatments for retinal disease.
She is principal investigator for several clinical trials and sits on advisory boards for national studies.
