Research
Dr Scotton has an active research programme as an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham, supported by funding from the Mason Legacy Bequest, the NIHR, the PSP Association and the MSA Trust. He leads the West Midlands Initiative for Neurodegeneration (We-MIND), a cross-specialty clinical–academic collaboration between neurologists and psychiatrists aimed at accelerating regional clinical trial recruitment, understanding the epidemiology of these diseases across different ethnic groups and biomarker discovery.
He completed a Wellcome Trust–funded PhD under Professor Sir John Hardy at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, focusing on genetic risk factors and disease progression in neurodegenerative disorders. He has published extensively, contributing to more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in leading neurology journals including The Lancet Neurology and Brain.
He is the NIHR West Midlands Specialty Lead for Neurodegeneration and Dementia and has recently been appointed as a Dementia Trials Network Fellow, a prestigious national fellowship programme supporting training in early-phase neurodegenerative trials.
