About

Dr Jenkins is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist with advanced training in Edinburgh and at the internationally renowned Mayo Clinic, USA. He specialises in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of a wide range of cardiovascular diseases, providing expert, patient-centred care for individuals with both common and complex heart conditions.

Dr Jenkins delivers comprehensive cardiology services across the full spectrum of heart and circulatory disorders, with particular expertise in the assessment of symptoms such as breathlessness, chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, syncope (blackouts) and reduced exercise capacity. He provides detailed cardiovascular evaluation through specialist cardiology clinics, combining advanced diagnostic testing with personalised treatment plans to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients.

He has a specialist clinical interest in the management of heart failure, cardiomyopathy, inherited cardiac conditions, genetic heart disease, and aortic disorders, including aneurysms and other abnormalities affecting the aorta. His expertise extends to the diagnosis and long-term management of patients with familial cardiovascular disease, helping individuals and families understand and manage inherited risks through comprehensive cardiac assessment, monitoring and preventative treatment strategies.

A recognised expert in cardiac imaging, Dr Jenkins holds national and European accreditation in transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE), cardiac MRI and cardiac CT imaging. These advanced diagnostic techniques allow him to accurately assess heart structure, function, valve disease, cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease and aortic pathology, ensuring that patients receive precise diagnoses and evidence-based treatment recommendations.

Dr Jenkins graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 2007 before completing a PhD in Cardiovascular Imaging at the University of Edinburgh in 2015. He subsequently undertook a prestigious fellowship at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, gaining advanced expertise in complex cardiovascular disease, cardiac diagnostics, heart failure management and multimodality cardiac imaging.

In 2021, he was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at Gloucester Royal Hospital, where he also held an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist position with Oxford University Hospitals. In recognition of his leadership and clinical expertise, he was appointed Clinical Lead for Cardiology in Gloucestershire in 2024. In 2025, he returned to Scotland to join the Edinburgh Heart Centre at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, one of the UK's leading tertiary cardiac centres.
