Dr Walayat Hussain provides consultation on all dermatology and skin related problems, including hair and nails.
Dr Walayat Hussain graduated from the University of Leicester and specialised in dermatology in Manchester where he developed his interest in skin cancer and dermatological surgery. Dr Hussain is the only dermatological surgeon in the Yorkshire region to be accredited by the prestigious American College of Mohs Surgery, having undertaken a two-year fellowship at the Skin Cancer Institute, New Zealand.
His main interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. He specialises in Mohs surgery – a specialised technique using a microscope at the time of surgery to ensure all the roots of a skin cancer are removed. Mohs surgery offers the highest cure rate following facial skin cancer removal and subsequently allows a cosmetically pleasing repair to be performed (as the hole to remove the cancer is kept as small as possible).
His main research interests are in highlighting surgical techniques that provide patients with the best results. He is one of the most widely published dermatological surgeons in the UK.

Research
Dr Hussain has been the UK's most published dermatological surgeon over the past two years. He has a particular interest in developing surgical techniques that aim to provide patients with the best results. He currently leads the British Society for Dermatological Surgery's research sub-group and has designed and led the UK's first collaborative study looking at the safety and benefit of Mohs Micrographic surgery.
Dr Hussain was also the first UK-based dermatological surgeon to be invited to deliver a focus session lecture at the American College of Mohs Surgery Annual Meeting in Chicago 2011 - a great honour for him and his department.
