Dr Walayat Hussain is a highly respected Consultant Dermatologist and Dermatological Surgeon providing expert assessment and treatment for all dermatology conditions, including diseases of the skin, hair and nails. He is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading skin cancer specialists and is the only dermatological surgeon in Yorkshire accredited by the American College of Mohs Surgery—the highest international standard for Mohs micrographic surgery.
Dr Hussain graduated from the University of Leicester and completed specialist dermatology training in Manchester, where he developed a particular interest in skin cancer management and advanced dermatological surgery. He went on to undertake a prestigious two-year Mohs surgery fellowship at the Skin Cancer Institute in New Zealand, gaining extensive expertise in the most effective, tissue-sparing skin cancer treatments.
His practice is known for its patient-centred approach, meticulous attention to detail and commitment to outstanding cosmetic and functional outcomes.
Specialist Expertise in Mohs Micrographic Surgery Dr Hussain’s primary clinical interest is the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, including complex and facial skin cancers. He specialises in Mohs micrographic surgery, an advanced technique performed using a microscope during surgery to ensure complete removal of all cancerous cells while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
Benefits of Mohs surgery include:
- Highest cure rate for skin cancer
- Precise removal of cancer roots
- Minimal removal of normal tissue
- Smaller surgical wounds
- Improved cosmetic and reconstructive outcomes
Please note: Mohs surgery is not performed at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, but Dr Hussain will facilitate referral to Chapel Allerton Hospital for those requiring this procedure.
