Dr Mwambingu is a consultant cardiologist with over 20 years of experience in sports cardiology, general cardiology, exercise prescription and cardiac imaging (advanced echocardiography and cardiac CT).
Dr Mwambingu graduated from Leeds University in 2001 and he undertook his postgraduate training both in the Yorkshire and North-East regions, completing his cardiology training rotation at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.
He returned to Yorkshire in 2012 to take up a full-time consultant post. He is the Lead Cardiologist at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Sheffield University.
He is the first cardiologist in the Yorkshire region to complete a Master's degree in Sports Cardiology from St George’s University, London. He has considerable experience in the screening and cardiac assessment of athletes from recreational to elite level.
He prides himself on clear communication and working in partnership with his patients to provide individually tailored care. The standard of his care has been recognised by has received many awards including iWantGreatCare of Certificate of Excellence 2019 and Local Clinical Excellence Awards.
