About
Dr Solanki is an experienced Consultant Physician specialising in Geriatric Medicine, with expertise in the care of older adults and the management of complex, multi-system conditions. Following his initial medical training, he undertook specialist training in geriatrics and completed a Master’s degree in Gerontology at King’s College London. His research interests include vitamin D deficiency and metabolic bone disease.
He established and led the osteoporosis service for Somerset and has been instrumental in developing a highly regarded orthogeriatric service, which was recently ranked second among 110 hospitals in England.
Dr Solanki provides comprehensive assessment and management of a wide range of general medical and geriatric conditions, including falls and transient loss of consciousness (“blackouts” or ‘funny turns’), transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs), stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and cognitive disorders such as memory impairment. As a geriatrician, he has particular expertise in managing patients with multiple co-existing conditions (multi-morbidity), delivering coordinated, holistic care.
He has a strong commitment to patient safety and quality improvement and is a member of the Trust’s Quality and Safety Steering Group. He also serves as the British Geriatrics Society lead for Quality and Safety.
