Dr Tarun Sharma

I am a General Practitioner (GP) and have been working in Derby since 2009. I completed my medical training across South Wales, London and Derby, gaining broad clinical exposure in both secondary care and primary care settings. This has allowed me to develop a well-rounded and comprehensive approach to patient management.

In addition to my clinical practice, I hold several professional roles. I am an approved GP Appraiser, supporting the appraisal and revalidation of doctors in line with GMC standards.

I also work as a GP Assessor for the Care Quality Commission (CQC), contributing to the inspection and regulation of primary care services. In addition, I serve as a Medical Referee at Markeaton Crematorium, fulfilling statutory duties including the scrutiny of medical certification.

I provide primary care services for patients across all age groups, with experience in the diagnosis, management, and ongoing monitoring of a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including:

• Diabetes mellitus, including long-term glycaemic control and complication prevention
• Hypertension, with cardiovascular risk assessment and management
• Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), including inhaler optimisation and symptom control
• Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, such as osteoarthritis, soft tissue injuries, and mechanical back pain
• Mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders and depressive illness

I also provide assessment and management of acute presentations, including infective illnesses, dermatological conditions, and other urgent, short-term health concerns.

Medical assessments and services

I offer a range of medical examinations and medico-legal services, including:

• Insurance and private medical assessments
• Pre-employment and occupational health medicals
• School and educational medical examinations
• Group 2 (HGV/PCV) driver medicals in line with DVLA requirements
• Private medical certification.

I also provide safe prescribing, medication reviews, and the management of repeat prescriptions as part of ongoing patient care.
