Dr Simon Russell is a Consultant Oncologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Huntingdon.
Dr Russell completed his medical training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London, where he received a first class honours degree, distinction, and several academic prizes. After general medical training at Guy’s Hospital, he pursued formal oncology training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and University College Hospital, London.
He also spent one year at the Institute of Urology, Middlesex Hospital. During his training, he was awarded the Royal College of Radiology Medal for the FRCR examination.
Dr Russell is actively involved in clinical research and has served as principal investigator or co-investigator in more than twenty national trials. He lectures extensively and teaches on the Royal College of Radiology’s Advanced Radiotherapy Course. He also serves as secretary of the British Uro-Oncology Group.
He collaborates closely with surgical colleagues and employs advanced techniques. Dr Russell uses radiotherapy (including brachytherapy), hormonal therapy, chemotherapy, and biological therapy to treat urological cancers (prostate and bladder), breast cancer, and skin cancers.
Together with colleagues at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, he has introduced advanced radiotherapy modalities, including Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), and prostate brachytherapy, into clinical practice.
Areas of clinical expertise include urological malignancies of the prostate and bladder, breast cancer, and cancers of unknown primary origin.
