About
Dr Rohan Wijesurendra is an Oxford-based Consultant Cardiologist seeing private patients at Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital. He sees patients with general heart symptoms and has specialist expertise in heart rhythm problems.
He provides cardiology assessment for chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness, blackouts, high blood pressure, heart health checks and concerns about cardiovascular risk. He also treats all types of heart rhythm disturbance, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, SVT, ectopic beats and slow heart rhythms.
His aim is to give patients a clear explanation and a practical plan, so they understand what has been found, what has been ruled out, and what should happen next. Treatment may involve reassurance, lifestyle advice, medication, rhythm monitoring, further tests, catheter ablation or cardiac device treatment. Face-to-face and remote appointments are available for initial and follow-up consultations.
Dr Wijesurendra studied medicine at the University of Cambridge, where he received several scholarships, prizes and distinctions. He completed postgraduate medical training and specialist cardiology training in Oxford, and undertook a DPhil (PhD) in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford.
Alongside his private practice, Dr Wijesurendra is an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. His NHS work in Oxford means he is familiar with local cardiology and electrophysiology pathways, which is helpful for patients who have already been assessed locally, are waiting for an NHS appointment, or would like a second opinion.

Dr Wijesurendra’s research focuses on atrial fibrillation, cardiac imaging, catheter ablation, cardiometabolic risk factors and cardiovascular disease prevention. He has received national and international recognition for his research, including awards from the European Society of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
