Dr Robbie McNeil is an experienced Consultant Haematologist specialising in the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of a wide range of blood disorders and blood cancers.

Based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, he provides expert haematology services for patients with both common and complex haematological conditions, delivering personalised, evidence-based care through specialist clinics and multidisciplinary treatment pathways.

Dr McNeil has extensive expertise in the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the blood, bone marrow and immune system.

He manages a range of benign and malignant haematological disorders, including:

• Anaemia and iron deficiency
• Leukaemia
• Lymphoma
• Myeloma
• Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs)
• Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
• Bleeding disorders
• Clotting disorders and thrombosis

Management of blood cancers

Dr McNeil has particular experience in the management of blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate all aspects of patient care, from initial diagnosis and staging through to treatment, monitoring and survivorship care.

Treatment options may include chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, supportive treatments and participation in clinical trials where appropriate.

Non-cancerous blood disorders

For patients with non-cancerous blood disorders, Dr McNeil offers specialist assessment and treatment for conditions such as iron deficiency, anaemia, clotting abnormalities and platelet disorders.

His approach focuses on identifying the underlying cause of symptoms, establishing an accurate diagnosis and developing effective long-term treatment strategies.

Education

Dr McNeil graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2006, where he also completed a two-year intercalated degree in Immunology, providing a strong foundation in the science of blood, immune and inflammatory disorders. During his postgraduate medical training in the West of Scotland, he gained extensive experience across major teaching hospitals and district general hospitals before choosing to specialise in Haematology. He completed his specialist haematology training in 2015.

Following qualification as a Consultant Haematologist, Dr McNeil worked at St John's Hospital, Livingston, where he provided specialist care across both inpatient and outpatient haematology services. In 2020, he joined Forth Valley Royal Hospital, where he now serves as a Consultant Haematologist, contributing to service development, clinical leadership and the delivery of high-quality patient care across the region.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr McNeil has a strong commitment to medical education, research and academic medicine. He teaches and mentors:
