Dr Robbie McNeil is an experienced Consultant Haematologist providing specialist assessment and treatment for a wide range of blood disorders.

He is based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, where he works as a Consultant Haematologist.

Expert in diagnosing and treating blood disorders

Dr McNeil has extensive expertise in the investigation and management of conditions such as:

  • Anaemia and iron deficiency
  • Leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma
  • Myeloproliferative disorders
  • Bleeding and clotting disorders

  • Chronic and complex haematological conditions requiring long‑term specialist care

Medical training and background

Dr McNeil graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2006, where he also completed a two‑year intercalated degree in Immunology.

During his postgraduate training in the West of Scotland, he gained broad medical experience working across a range of both city teaching hospitals and district general hospitals. This diverse training led to his decision to specialise in Haematology, where he completed his specialty training in 2015.

Consultant appointments

After qualifying as a consultant, Dr McNeil worked at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, where he provided specialist haematology care across both inpatient and outpatient services.

In 2020, he moved to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, where he now holds the role as a Consultant Haematologist.

This leadership role reflects his commitment to high‑quality diagnostic medicine and service development.

Teaching, research and academic roles

Dr McNeil is deeply involved in medical education, providing teaching and mentorship for:

  • Undergraduate medical students
  • Postgraduate trainees
  • Clinicians involved in multidisciplinary haematology care

He is also a Principal Investigator for haematology clinical trials in the Forth Valley region, giving patients access to innovative treatments and helping advance the field of blood cancer and blood disorder research.

In 2020, Dr McNeil was appointed Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, recognising his contribution to academic medicine and clinical teaching.

Special interests

Dr McNeil has a broad clinical interest in clinical and laboratory haematology and is an expert in the often complex nature of diagnosis in haematology.
