Dr Ravik Mascarenhas

Dr Mascarenhas is a Consultant Rheumatologist at The Nuffield Hospital, Exeter and The Royal Devon University NHS Hospital Trust (RDUHT). He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Nottingham University Medical School and has published in major medical journals.

Dr Mascarenhas specialises in all aspects of Rheumatology, including

• Soft tissue rheumatology
• Osteoarthritis
• Inflammatory arthritis (such as ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and pseudogout),
• Connective tissue diseases (such as lupus, scleroderma, and Sjögren's syndrome)
• Fibromyalgia,
• Osteoporosis
• He has a particular interest in the diagnosis of early inflammatory arthritis using modern imaging techniques.

Dr Mascarenhas is unable to see patients Privately regarding hypermobility/Ehlers Danlos syndrome (EDS), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), long Covid or the urgent new patient assessment for suspected Giant Cell Arteritis.

In addition to his Nuffield and NHS Consultant Rheumatologist practice, Dr Mascarenhas is the Lead for Governance across  both the Northern and Eastern sites for Rheumatology in RDUHT. Previous roles include Clinical Lead for the RDUHT Rheumatology Department, the Training Program Director for Rheumatology Specialist Training in the Peninsula, Exeter Medical School Lead for Rheumatology and National Lead for Rheumatology Specialist Register Certification during his tenure on the Royal College of Physicians Specialist Advisory Committee.
