He trained at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, alongside leading London teaching hospitals including King’s College Hospital and St George’s Hospital. This broad training gave him strong experience in skin disease diagnosis, dermatology procedures and skin surgery.
Dr Farrant was appointed Consultant Dermatologist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2009 and has been Clinical Lead since 2012. He plays a central role in the skin cancer multidisciplinary team, working closely with other specialists to plan effective treatment. He performs more than 400 skin cancer procedures each year, including excision surgery and minor operative treatments to remove cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions.
He has been awarded six Clinical Excellence Awards in recognition of his contribution to patient care and dermatology services. In 2012, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians for his work in advancing dermatology practice.
Alongside skin cancer diagnosis and surgery, Dr Farrant treats a wide range of common skin conditions. These include acne, eczema and psoriasis, as well as more complex or persistent dermatological disorders. He has a particular clinical interest in hair loss and scalp disorders, including alopecia, and is recognised nationally for his expertise in diagnosis and treatment in this area.
His clinic offers specialist services such as skin cancer screening, mole checks and mole mapping to support early diagnosis. He also provides advanced assessment of hair and scalp conditions using video trichoscopy, a detailed imaging technique used to guide diagnosis and treatment plans.
Dr Farrant is actively involved in research and leads studies into hair loss conditions and treatments. He also lectures across the UK and internationally, sharing best practice in dermatology, skin cancer care and hair disorder management. His approach is clear and practical, focused on accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment to achieve the best outcome for each patient.
