About
Dr Wijesekera is a Consultant in Clinical Neurophysiology, specialising in nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG) for the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders. His expertise includes conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy, nerve root entrapment, peripheral nerve injuries, myopathies, myasthenia gravis, and motor neurone disease.
His primary subspecialty interest lies in electrodiagnostic assessment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neurone disease.
In his clinical role, Dr Wijesekera focuses on the performance and interpretation of electrodiagnostic investigations for patients presenting with symptoms including numbness, sensory disturbances, pain, weakness, muscle fatigue, muscle wasting, and fasciculations. He also evaluates conditions related to nerve entrapment and provides prognostic assessments for traumatic nerve injuries.
In addition, he has expertise in other neurophysiological diagnostic techniques, including electroencephalography (EEG) and evoked potentials (EPs). These specialised investigations are currently offered within his NHS practice.
