About

Dr Jamil is a specialist in GastroenteroIogy with extensive experience in digestive diseases, hepatology and endoscopy. He uses his wealth of experience and skills to diagnose and treat problems including heartburn/reflux, indigestion, bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding and liver problems. He is a highly skilled endoscopist, putting patient experience and comfort at the centre of his care.

Dr Jamil works in partnership with his patients and listens to their problems with respect and empathy. He personally guides his patients through their diagnostic and treatment journey, delivering high-quality care and ensuring patient satisfaction.

He studied medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, and completed specialist training in London, working at major teaching hospitals including Kings College Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Barts and the Royal London. He has a strong academic background, having spent a year as a research fellow in Australia and was awarded a PhD at Imperial College London for his research in immunology.

At University Hospitals Sussex, Dr Jamil is a specialist endoscopist and performs advanced procedures including colonoscopy and polypectomy, ERCP and therapeutic endoscopy. He leads the HPB cancer service and is a key member of weekly held liver and inflammatory bowel disease specialist meetings.

Dr Jamil is a Senior Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School where he delivers lectures and examines medical students. He also regularly lectures postgraduate doctors in training and teaches endoscopy skills on the National Joint Advisory Group (JAG) training courses.<

Dr Jamil was awarded a PhD at Imperial College London investigating the immune response in liver transplantation. He has also carried out research into Hepatitis C treatments as well as endoscopy utility and has published his findings in peer-reviewed journals.
