About
I am a Consultant Cardiologist based in Derby. I have been a Consultant since 2004 and have over 20 years of experience in caring for patients with heart conditions.
I provide private care at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital and Spire Nottingham Hospital. I also work in the NHS at Royal Derby Hospital.
I treat adults aged 16 and over. My aim is to provide clear, personalised care and help you understand your condition and treatment options.
I studied medicine at the University of Nottingham. I then completed my specialist cardiology training on the Leicester and Derby rotation.
Before becoming a Consultant, I worked as a Registrar in Leicester. I also hold an honorary role at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, where I stay up to date with newer heart treatments.
Areas of expertise
I assess and treat a wide range of heart conditions, including:
- Chest pain and angina (reduced blood flow to the heart)
- Coronary heart disease
- Heart attacks (myocardial infarction)
- Heart failure (when the heart cannot pump effectively)
- Cardiomyopathy (disease of the heart muscle)
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Palpitations and heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias)
- Blackouts (syncope)
I also have a special interest in valve disease. This includes heart murmurs and problems with heart valves.
Specialist treatments and procedures
I carry out tests and treatments to diagnose and manage heart disease, including:
- Coronary angiography (a test to look at the heart arteries)
- Coronary stenting (PCI) to treat narrowed or blocked arteries
Some advanced procedures may be carried out at specialist centres where needed.
I also assess patients for modern treatments that do not require open heart surgery. This includes Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a less invasive way to treat certain valve problems.
Investigations and tests
I arrange and interpret a wide range of heart tests, including:
- Echocardiogram (heart ultrasound)
- ECG and exercise stress tests (heart rhythm tests)
- Cardiac CT and MRI scans
- Heart rhythm monitoring
These tests help to give a full picture of your heart health.
My approach
I take a holistic approach to your care. This means I look at your overall health and how your condition affects your daily life.
I will take time to talk with you in detail about your symptoms, what may be causing them and the best way to treat them.
My aim is to help you feel informed, reassured and confident throughout your care.
Special interests
I also have a special interest in valve disease. This includes heart murmurs and problems with heart valves.

Research
Dr Baron's MD thesis was in Drug-eluting coronary stents to prevent stent thrombosis (clots) and restenosis (renarrowing). This was published in Cardiovascular Research. She has also published articles on diagnosis of Myocardial Infarction and has written an editorial (in Heart) on a new procedure for Aortic Stenosis called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI).
She is principal site investigator for a trial comparing thrombolysis (clot busters) with primary angioplasty (immediate stenting) in myocardial infarction (heart attack). She has had several book chapters published.
