He plays a key role in bowel cancer screening and leads the colorectal multidisciplinary team (MDT), helping to coordinate expert care for patients with complex bowel conditions.
Dr Jacob specialises in advanced procedures to treat polyps and abnormalities in the digestive tract, including:
- Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)
- Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)
- Full thickness resection for complex bowel polyps
He also performs capsule endoscopy, a non-invasive test using a small camera to examine the small bowel and colon.
Dr Jacob manages a wide range of gastroenterology conditions, including:
- Bowel polyps and early bowel cancer
- Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis)
- Abnormal findings on colonoscopy or scans
- General digestive symptoms requiring investigation
He also uses artificial intelligence (AI) in endoscopy to improve the accuracy, safety and quality of procedures such as colonoscopy.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Jacob is actively involved in teaching. He regularly teaches advanced endoscopy techniques at the United European Gastroenterology Summer School, helping train doctors from across Europe.
Dr Jacob provides clear explanations and practical advice, helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options. His focus is on accurate diagnosis, early detection of bowel conditions, and effective treatment using the latest techniques.
Special interests
Dr Jacob’s clinical interests lie in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance endoscopy, improving the quality and safety of endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures, managing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), performing polypectomies and interpreting capsule endoscopy.

Dr Jacob is actively involved in clinical research aimed at improving outcomes for patients undergoing gastrointestinal investigations and treatments. His recent publications include:
COLODETECT Trial – A major multicentre study published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology (Oct 2024), comparing standard colonoscopy with AI-assisted colonoscopy using the GI Genius module. The trial demonstrated how artificial intelligence can enhance polyp detection in routine clinical practice. [PMID: 39153491]
Multidisciplinary Management of Complex Colorectal Polyps – Published in Colorectal Disease (2024), this study highlights the benefits of a team-based approach in managing patients with complex polyps, improving decision-making and patient outcomes. [PMID: 39472772]
- CESCAIL Study – Featured in BMC Gastroenterology (May 2025), this research explored factors that predict when patients undergoing colon capsule endoscopy may need to transition to conventional optical endoscopy. [PMID: 40355828]
