About
Dr Jas Singh is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon based in NHS Lothian, with specialist expertise in retinal disorders, macular disease and complex vitreoretinal conditions. He has over 27 years of experience in private practice, providing advanced medical and surgical eye care for patients across Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
Dr Singh completed extensive specialist training in ophthalmology, including advanced fellowship‑level vitreoretinal surgery training at the internationally recognised Lions Eye Institute in Perth, Australia. He was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist in NHS Lothian in 1998 and is one of the region’s most established specialists in retinal and medical retina care.
His clinical expertise includes the treatment of retinal detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, diabetic eye disease and other complex vitreous and retinal conditions, using modern, evidence‑based surgical techniques.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Singh has held numerous senior leadership and educational roles at national level, including Clinical Director for Ophthalmology in NHS Lothian and senior positions with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has played a key role in shaping ophthalmology training and maintaining high standards in eye surgery education.
