About
Dr Ian Mann is a Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Rhythm Specialist (Electrophysiologist) practising in Haywards Heath, Brighton, Sussex and London.
Dr Mann sees private patients at Nuffield Health Haywards Heath Hospital and OneWelbeck, London. His NHS practice is based at the Sussex Cardiac Centre, University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) and other heart rhythm disorders, and is highly experienced in catheter ablation procedures. He uses advanced ablation technologies, including pulsed field ablation (PFA), radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation.
Many patients are referred to Dr Mann with symptoms such as palpitations, an irregular or racing heartbeat, dizziness, blackouts, breathlessness or unexplained episodes of feeling unwell.
Approach to patient care
He is committed to providing clear explanations and personalised treatment plans, helping patients understand their condition and confidently choose between lifestyle changes, medication and interventional treatments such as catheter ablation.
Dr Mann has performed more than 1,000 catheter ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation and treats a wide range of heart rhythm disorders, including supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, ventricular ectopic beats and ventricular tachycardia.
In addition to his specialist electrophysiology practice, Dr Mann provides comprehensive general cardiology care. He assesses and treats patients with chest pain, high blood pressure (hypertension), breathlessness, heart failure, heart valve disease and other cardiovascular conditions.
Education and research
Dr Mann completed a PhD at Imperial College London, where he researched advanced methods of mapping atrial fibrillation to improve the effectiveness of catheter ablation.
He now leads an atrial fibrillation research programme at the Sussex Cardiac Centre, supervising doctoral researchers, leading clinical trials and collaborating with national and international research groups. His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed cardiology journals.

Research
Mr Mann's research interests predominantly involve atrial fibrillation (AF) management and treatment. He has published research in a number of journals on this subject, and undertaken a PhD at Imperial College London in the development of a new system to map AF to improve our understanding of the mechanisms that cause it.
He has also presented and spoken at a number of national and international conferences. He's currently involved in a number of AF trials, and co-supervises a research fellow to undertake an MD at Brighton University.
