About

Dr Katifi is a highly experienced neurologist with a long-standing clinical, academic, and leadership background spanning Iraq and the United Kingdom. His medical career began at the University of Baghdad, where he completed his medical training before progressing into advanced roles in diagnosis, treatment, and neurological therapy.

He first served as a Senior House Officer in General and Acute Medicine at the Medical City Teaching Hospital in Baghdad (1979–1982). He then advanced to Registrar in Neurology at the same institution (1982–1983), gaining extensive hands-on experience in neurological procedures, inpatient care, and complex case management within a major teaching clinic.

He joined the University of Southampton as an Honorary Clinical Assistant and Research Registrar, undertaking PhD studies focused on clinical neurophysiology and contributing to research on nerve function, neurological disorders, and diagnostic techniques.

His UK training continued with posts as Senior House Officer in General Medicine at the Royal South Hants Hospital (1988), followed by Registrar and Senior Registrar roles in Neurology at the Wessex Neurological Centre, Southampton General Hospital, and the Royal London Hospital (1988–1992). These positions strengthened his expertise in neurological assessment, advanced treatments, and multidisciplinary care, including the evaluation of patients requiring neurological surgery or long-term therapeutic management.
