About
Dr Baker specialises in the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of gastrointestinal (GI) and liver disease. He understands the profound impact that GI symptoms can have and recognises the importance of taking an individual approach when addressing his patients’ needs.
He can offer rapid access to diagnostics which include bloods, scans and endoscopic procedures to evaluate symptoms to help formulate a personalised management approach.
He has full Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation for both upper and lower GI diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and performs advanced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). EUS offers a focused assessment of the upper abdominal organs which can be used to sample disease and is highly effective at looking at the pancreas and assessing for stones, which are a common cause of abdominal pain.
Dr Baker has an additional interest in liver disease (Hepatology) offering FibroScan liver fibrosis measurement as part of an overall assessment into liver health.
He has a formal teaching qualification and regularly delivers sessions in primary and secondary care. He has recently help set up and deliver an EUS course for nurses and regular engages with national and international conferences to ensure his knowledge and skills are keep up to date.

Research
Dr Baker works as a full-time substantive NHS Consultant Gastroenterologist at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate medical career Dr Baker has taken every opportunity to immerse himself in audit, quality improvement and collaborative research.
He recognises the importance of having a research-active career and regularly attends specialty conferences as a commitment to providing his patients with the most up to date evidence-based care. He welcomes every opportunity to share his knowledge with students and colleagues and has a formal post-graduate teaching qualification, regularly deliver sessions and having recently set up a highly successful EUS course for nurses.
His academic work has been shared locally, regionally, nationally and internationally in a variety of different formats to include peer-reviewed journal publications, oral conference presentations and posters. The level of contribution to each individual piece of work varies and a great deal is down to the collaborative efforts of many contributing authors and colleagues.
