About
Dr Freddie Burgess is a highly specialised Consultant Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon, with expertise in adult strabismus (squint) surgery and paediatric ophthalmology.
Originally from London, he completed his ophthalmology specialist training in Edinburgh, before undertaking sub-specialty fellowship training in strabismus surgery and paediatric ophthalmology at the internationally renowned Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
Dr Burgess performs cataract surgery for adults, children, and even neonates, and is strongly committed to achieving the best possible visual outcomes for all his patients.
He currently practises as a Consultant in NHS Lothian, working at both the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People in Edinburgh. In addition, he holds an honorary research position at the University of St Andrews and is actively involved in the training of future ophthalmic surgeons.
Dr Burgess is the lead clinician for retinopathy of prematurity in Edinburgh and provides a specialist service for double vision, offering both surgical and non-surgical treatments, including Botox injections for strabismus and blepharospasm.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and a member of both the British & Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association (BIPOSA) and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS).
