About
Dr Francesco Papalia is a Consultant Cardiologist skilled in the assessment and management of individuals with heart disease including chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath and blackouts. He practices at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and holds an honorary post at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, where he sub-specialises in heart failure and advanced cardiac imaging. He is also a clinical senior lecturer at Bars and The London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London.
Educated at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr Papalia graduated with multiple prizes and obtained a First Class Honours intercalated BMedSci degree in Molecular Therapeutics.
Alongside clinical practice, Dr Papalia has published widely and presented internationally. During his postgraduate training he obtained a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences at King’s College London, funded by the British Heart Foundation. His research on iron deficiency, cardiac metabolism and energy use in heart failure, contributed work that helped inform the novel use of iron in heart failure patients.
He completed subspecialist training at Barts Heart Centre in Heart Failure and advanced cardiac imaging with a focus on cardiac MRI and PET scanning, and advanced heart failure care. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, and Fellow of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology.
