About

Dr Elizabeth Iveson MBCHB, FRCP UK is a Stroke Consultant working within the NHS and Private sector. She was appointed as a Consultant Stroke (all ages) and Elderly Care Physician at York Hospital in November 2006. Dr Iveson is the Lead Consultant for Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Unit in York and the Elderly Medicine Lead for the York Integrated Complex Care Team.

 Her interests and expertise include all aspects of Stroke and Neurological rehabilitation including Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment, Rehabilitation and the Management of post stroke and TIA complications such as fatigue, spasticity, continence, depression and pain. She has cared for patients of all ages with complex physical and cognitive disabilities for many years and is skilled in long term care of patients with complex needs and end of life care. She is passionate about delivering high quality patient centred specialist care and communicating well with patients, relatives and the wider multidisciplinary team in order to maximise the patients quality of life in all areas- including returning to work and driving assessments.

 Dr Iveson has worked within the NHS for over 20 years and is very experienced in the management of all areas of Stroke medicine. Dr Iveson qualified from Birmingham Medical School in 1997 with Honours in Medicine and completed her Junior doctor training in London Teaching hospitals. She then spent two years as a Research fellow working on a MRC funded Stroke study divided between Kings College Hospital, London and the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, before moving back to Yorkshire to complete her Speciality training, accredited in Geriatric and General Medicine with a self led subspecialty in Stroke.

 Dr Iveson has been actively involved in Stroke and Neurorehabilitation research for many years, both as Principal and Sub Investigator, recruiting to clinical trials that have changed practice and was the Regional Lead for Stroke in the Yorkshire and Humber Combined Local Research Network. Dr Iveson is an Honorary Lecturer for Hull and East Yorkshire Medical School and teaches medical students regularly.
