About
Dr Krishnakumar is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, with experience in paediatrics spanning 15 years.
She trained in general paediatrics in East Anglia, London and in Wales. Subsequently she trained to be a specialist Paediatric Neurologist in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. Dr Krishnakumar has worked as a consultant at the tertiary referral neurology centre at Southampton prior to her appointment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Dr Krishnakumar treats children in specialist neurological conditions such as headaches, stroke, epilepsy, developmental delay, cerebral palsy and neuromuscular problems both for outpatient and inpatient management. She is well versed in the diagnostic modalities including MRI and CT scans, metabolic tests, skin and muscle biopsy. She teaches in epilepsy courses via the British Paediatric Neurology Association.
She has successfully completed her general paediatric training and obtained certificate of completion from the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health, London and hence experienced in treating children with general childhood problems such as respiratory illness and gastrointestinal problems.
Dr Krishnakumar provides verbal and written information to parents about their child’s condition. She aims to establish a good rapport and channels of open communication with families around difficult diagnosis.

Dr Krishnakumar has published on conditions such as mitochondrial disorders, infantile epilepsy and biotinidase deficiency.
She has presented her work at the Royal college of paediatrics, British paediatric neurology and at the European society of Paediatric Neurology meetings.
She is a local principal investigator for national studies such as opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome and UK encephalitis study.
Her research interests also include diagnostics of rare paediatric hereditary neuropathies and mitochondrial disorders.
