About

Dr Bower is a Consultant Dermatologist who sees patients at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.

He studied medicine at Edinburgh University, where he also completed a degree in pharmacology. After qualifying, he trained in both medicine and surgery at hospitals in Nottingham and Brisbane, before completing his specialist dermatology training in Bristol. He has been a Consultant Dermatologist in Exeter since 2001.

Dr Bower specialises in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of skin cancer, including both surgical and non‑surgical treatments. He has a particular interest in non‑melanoma skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. He established the photodynamic therapy service for skin cancer in Exeter and carries out more than 1,000 skin surgery procedures each year. He also chairs the Exeter Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team. Ongoing monitoring of his work shows high accuracy in diagnosing skin lesions and strong outcomes from skin cancer surgery.

In his general dermatology practice, Dr Bower focuses on clear communication and shared decision‑making. His approach is to place the patient at the centre of every consultation and work together to agree on the best treatment plan.
