About

Dr Small graduated from Newcastle University in 2003, following which she joined the Royal Air Force, where she trained in Anaesthesia within NHS hospitals across the UK and worked as part of the UK Defence Critical Care Aeromedical Support Team.

On leaving the RAF in 2012, Charlotte completed her MSc in Pain Management and undertook a PhD in critical care rehabilitation and pain management. She completed her specialist training in a combined clinical and academic post before moving to Hereford in 2020 to take up a permanent post as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine.

Dr Small is now the Pain Management service co-lead at Wye Valley Trust, having supported the commissioning of the Hereford-based chronic pain service, which opened in 2021. She also works in theatres, preoperative assessment and ICU.

She offers care for persistent and chronic pain conditions, including back pain, sciatica, fibromyalgia, headache and pelvic pain. She can undertake injection-based procedures including epidurals, nerve root blocks, medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablation.

Dr Small's approach is patient-centred and considers the impacts of the patient’s condition on their life. She works alongside specialist practitioners and therapists to ensure holistic care is delivered in a practical and sensitive manner.
