Dr Catherine Heath graduated from medical school in Sheffield in 1992 with Honours. She completed her early training in general medicine in Sheffield, achieving Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1995. She then undertook specialist training in Clinical Oncology in Leeds, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 1998. Between 2000 and 2001, she spent a year in clinical research as a Clinical Fellow in the Palliative Radiation Oncology Programme at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
She was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist in Southampton in early 2002, specialising in urological malignancies. Dr Heath serves as the Lead Clinician for Urological Malignancies, with a particular focus on the non‑surgical management of prostate cancer. Her expertise includes radical external beam radiotherapy, permanent prostate brachytherapy seed implantation, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and radio‑isotope treatments for bone metastases.
Her clinical interests also extend to bladder cancer and radiotherapy for testicular cancer. She is the Lead Oncologist in Wessex for the non‑surgical treatment of penile cancer, working within the supra‑regional multidisciplinary team led by Mr N. Watkin at St George’s Hospital. In 2006, she established the Southampton Prostate Brachytherapy Seed Implant service, which she continues to run.
Dr Heath is a founding and executive committee member of the British Uro‑Oncology Group and currently serves as its Treasurer.
