About

Dr Ben Corden is a Consultant Cardiologist at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Bristol Heart Institute. He provides expert, personalised care across all areas of general cardiology (breathlessness, chest pain, palpitations, faints/blackouts, high blood pressure) with specialist expertise in heart failure, cardiomyopathy, inherited heart conditions and advanced cardiac imaging.

Dr Corden studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and completed a PhD at University College London. His cardiology training took place at leading London hospitals including Hammersmith, Royal Brompton and St Bartholomew’s, followed by research at the National Heart Centre Singapore focusing on heart muscle disease and imaging.

Dr Corden is Clinical Lead for Heart Failure in Gloucestershire and a key member of the regional Inherited Cardiac Conditions Service. Known for his calm, friendly manner and clear communication, he takes time to ensure patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options, helping them feel confident and supported in their care.

Research

Dr Ben Corden has a strong research background focused on improving diagnosis and treatment for people with heart muscle disease, heart failure and inherited cardiac conditions. He completed a PhD at University College London before carrying out advanced cardiovascular research at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London and the National Heart Centre Singapore.

His international research explored the biological mechanisms that cause scarring and weakening of the heart muscle, helping to identify new potential treatments for heart failure. This work, published in leading medical journals, has influenced ongoing efforts to develop more targeted therapies for patients with cardiomyopathy and related conditions.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr Corden remains active in research and innovation within the NHS, leading quality improvement and service-evaluation projects in heart failure and cardiac imaging, and supporting the integration of research into everyday patient care.
