About
Dr Khan is a highly skilled Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh, specialising in the diagnosis, treatment and surgical management of complex retinal and vitreous disorders. He provides expert care for patients with a wide range of sight-threatening eye conditions, combining advanced surgical expertise with a patient-centred approach to preserve and restore vision.
Dr Khan studied Medicine in Edinburgh before completing his initial postgraduate medical training in Yorkshire. He subsequently undertook specialist Ophthalmology training in the South East of Scotland, followed by advanced vitreoretinal fellowship training in Edinburgh and at the renowned Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, one of the UK's leading centres for retinal surgery and specialist ophthalmic care.
His clinical practice focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of complex retinal conditions affecting the back of the eye. He also provides specialist care for patients with vitreous haemorrhage, retinal tears, macular disorders, posterior vitreous detachment, and other complex retinal pathologies.
Dr Khan has extensive experience in both elective retinal surgery and the emergency treatment of acute retinal conditions. He regularly manages urgent ophthalmic cases requiring prompt diagnosis and intervention to prevent permanent vision loss, including retinal detachments, retinal tears and postoperative complications. His practice is focused on utilising modern, minimally invasive surgical techniques and evidence-based treatments to achieve the best possible visual outcomes.
In addition to surgical care, Dr Khan provides comprehensive retinal assessments through dedicated ophthalmology clinics, offering advanced diagnostic investigations including optical coherence tomography (OCT), retinal imaging, fundus examination, ocular ultrasound and other specialist ophthalmic diagnostic procedures. These investigations support accurate diagnosis, treatment planning and long-term monitoring of retinal disease.
