Dr Antonella Berry-Brincat

Dr Antonella is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with over 12 years of specialist expertise in eyelid, tear duct (lacrimal), and orbital conditions. She has undertaken two prestigious fellowships in Oculoplastic Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Leicester, gaining advanced skills in both surgical and non-surgical treatments around the eyes.

Clinical expertise includes:

• Eyelid malpositions (e.g. ectropion, entropion)
• Blocked tear ducts / watery eyes
• Thyroid eye disease
• Misdirected eyelashes (trichiasis)
• Upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
• Lower eyelid bags
• Dry eyes and blepharitis
• Eyelid skin cancer
• Eyelid lumps and bumps (e.g. styes, cysts)
• Blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm (Botox treatment)

Her NHS base, the University Hospitals of Leicester, is a busy teaching hospital where she manages complex cases and receives tertiary referrals from across the region.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Antonella serves as a College Tutor, supporting the development of future ophthalmologists. As Ambassador for Training for the Maltese trainees in the East Midlands Deanery, she facilitates the placement of Maltese doctors in specialist training programmes and mentors Maltese doctors (from all fields) who come to the UK on a government-funded training scheme, before returning to Malta to deliver high-quality medical care in their communities.

Dr Antonella has published in respected peer-reviewed journals and is committed to staying up to date with the latest advances through regular attendance at national and international conferences.

She is known for her compassionate, meticulous approach and is highly valued by her patients for her attentive care, clear communication, and excellent outcomes. She takes the time to listen and tailor treatment plans, ensuring every patient feels confident, informed, and supported.
