About

I’m Dr Andrew Kelion, a Consultant Cardiologist based in Oxford with over 30 years of experience in diagnosing and managing heart conditions.

I offer cardiology consultations and advanced heart imaging tests at Nuffield Health,The Manor Hospital, Oxford.

Education and experience

I qualified as a doctor from the University of Oxford in 1991 and went on to specialise in cardiology, completing a doctorate focused on advanced imaging techniques for coronary artery disease.

Over the years, I’ve worked at leading UK hospitals, including 11 years as Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Imaging at Harefield Hospital. I now practise at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, alongside my private work.

Areas of expertise

I specialise in non-invasive cardiac imaging, which allows us to assess your heart quickly, safely, and without the need for invasive procedures.

My core areas include:

  • Echocardiography (heart ultrasound)
  • Nuclear cardiology scans
  • Cardiac CT scans

These tests help diagnose conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart valve problems, and other cardiac issues with accuracy and comfort in mind.

Leadership

I’m actively involved in improving heart care across the UK and have previously served as President of the British Nuclear Cardiology Society.

I’ve also written widely used medical textbooks, including contributions to the Oxford Handbooks of Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiovascular CT, as well as clinical guidelines and research papers.

Personal interests

I live in Northwood with my wife and four children, and I'm active in the local community. I enjoy classical concerts, good food and vintage port, and really should take more exercise.

Research

Dr Kelion has a particular research interest in the use of myocardial perfusion imaging in guiding percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty). He is currently the nuclear cardiology lead on steering committees for two national multicenter trials.
