Dr Alastair Jones is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Physician at Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. He works at the Rugby Football Union as an educator and as part of the international match day medical team. Dr Jones also works for Premiership Rugby as a Match Day Doctor.
Alastair qualified in Medicine from the University of Sheffield in 2003. He obtained Fellowship to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in 2011 and achieved a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath in 2016. His areas of clinical interest include; Musculoskeletal Medicine and Sports and Exercise Medicine. He also has a keen interest in Medical Education. Dr Jones runs bi-weekly musculoskeletal clinics at The Bradford Royal Infirmary. Specialising primarily in active patients with acute and chronic injuries, helping them return swiftly to sport and work.
Dr Jones also held the role Head of Medical Services for Leeds Rugby. He oversaw the medical departments of Leeds Rhinos Rugby League and Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby Union. He is a course director/instructor for the Rugby Football Unions Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport Course and forms part of the Twickenham Stadium match day medical team. Dr Jones has previously worked for Tonga as their doctor during the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and has held the role of Immediate Care Doctor at the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup and 2016 Rugby Union Junior World Cup.

Research
Alastair’s research interests include the development of acute musculoskeletal injury services and recent publications have focussed on the improvements in the care of patients with ACL injuries following the creation of such a service.
Current projects are looking into the assessment and advice given to patients following concussive injuries sustained while playing sport.
