About
Dr Anastasios Lekkas has been a consultant in respiratory medicine at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust since 2007 and feels very privileged to have spent his career caring for people with a wide range of lung conditions.
He trained in London at leading centres including Imperial College Healthcare, Royal Brompton, Harefield, and St George’ – experiences that shaped both his clinical skills and patient-focused approach.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Lekkas completed a PhD in Lung Cancer, with a particular interest in early diagnosis using microRNA. This led to his current roles as Lead for Lung Cancer and Responsible Clinician for the Southampton Lung Health Screening Programme, where early detection and prevention remain at the heart of what he does.
Dr Lekkas looks after patients with a broad range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, lung infections, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic cough, lung cancer, and unexplained breathlessness. He also cares for people with sleep-related breathing disorders and those affected by smoking-related or occupational lung disease.
Above all, he believes in taking time to listen and to understand each patient’s concerns. His aim is always to provide clear explanations, honest advice and care that is both evidence-based and compassionate – helping patients feel informed, supported, and confident in their treatment.
