About

Professor Vladimir Bobić is an experienced knee surgeon and director and founder of Chester Knee Clinic, based at Nuffield Health The Grosvenor Hospital, Chester since 1996. Chester Knee Clinic is recognised as an International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) approved Teaching Centre in knee surgery.

Professor Bobić has over 25 years of extensive experience in treating sports knee injuries and osteoarthritis, and all aspects of knee surgery, including arthroscopic surgery, articular cartilage repair, ligament reconstruction and knee arthroplasty.

He is an internationally recognised expert, and one of the UK’s clinical pioneers, in knee articular cartilage repair.

Professor Bobić is the inventor and instrument designer of Arthrex OATS (Osteochondral Autograft Transfer System) articular cartilage repair technology. He performed the first ACI (Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation) in the North West of England in 1998, and continues to perform a wide range of cartilage repair procedures in Chester, including ACI surgery, on a regular basis.

Professor Bobić has over 25 years of experience in digital clinical, surgical and arthroscopic imaging, including video editing, and over 10 years of experience in clinical and MR digital imaging of articular cartilage. He introduced web-based MRI TeleRadiology at The Grosvenor Hospital in Chester in 2004, in collaboration with the late Gene Hughes, Dr David Ritchie, Kodak and Alliance Medical. He is a founder and former chairman of the ICRS Articular Cartilage Imaging Committee, and Visiting Associate Professor at the Musculoskeletal Imaging Section, Stanford University School of Medicine, Radiology Department, Stanford, California, USA (1998).

He continues to focus on articular cartilage repair, which is his main clinical, imaging and research interest. His clinical and surgical practice includes all contemporary articular cartilage repair technologies like subchondral drilling (or microfracture), OATS (autologous osteochondral grafting, which is often combined with implantation of autologous bone marrow aspirate), AMIC (deep subchondral drilling combined with collagen ChondroGide membrane), ACI or CCI (autologous chondrocyte implantation or characterized chondrocyte implantation) and autologus stem cell based therapies.

Professor Bobić has six years of experience with using autologous bone marrow aspirate in combination with deep subchondral drilling and autologous osteochondral grafting (OATS) for the treatment of mild to moderate distal femoral osteoarthritis. He organised the first regional seminar on the use of Autologous Stem Cell Therapies in Orthopaedics which was held in Chester in June 2013.
