Professor Mehool Acharya

Professor Acharya took up his consultant post at Frenchay and the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead, Bristol, as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in orthopaedic trauma and lower limb joint replacement. His particular areas of expertise include pelvic reconstruction, complex trauma, hip and knee replacement, and revision hip surgery. He is committed to individualising treatment for each patient and offers both operative and non-operative treatment modalities.

He studied at The University of Leeds Medical School and intercalated, attaining a first-class honours degree in Anatomy in 1995. After graduating from medical school, he continued his basic surgical training in Liverpool and Leicester, becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He then undertook two years of clinical research at the University of Leicester.

His higher surgical training was completed on the South Trent rotation. During this time, he spent one year in Bristol, subspecialising in pelvic and acetabular trauma and complex trauma, and a further year in Perth, Western Australia, specialising in complex hip and knee arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty.

He is currently the Audit Lead for the Orthopaedic and Trauma Department at North Bristol and also represents the musculoskeletal department as Lead Clinician for venous thromboembolism (VTE). He is dedicated to teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals.
